Επίσημη Ιστοσελίδα της Ελληνικής Διπολικής Οργάνωσης (ΕΔΟ)
Welcome to the website (edo.org.gr) of the Hellenic Bipolar Organization (EDO)
After many years of absence we are finally EDO (here) for all Greek Bipolar patients, their relatives and friends, as well as health professionals working for the promotion of bipolar (manic-depressive) health.
We are the first non-profit organisation for Bipolar (Manic-depressive) patients in Greece. Our aim is to empower the bipolar patient, and promote bipolar health through support, information and advocacy programmes.
Our EDO officially came to life on 19/06/08, and was founded by Dr. Yanni Malliaris in memory of his father George Malliaris (1942 - 2003), father, professor and bipolar patient.
After many years of existence (2008-today), we continue to be “EDO" and to support Greek bipolarity with every available means.
To Support, Inform, and Protect Greek Bipolarity
The Hellenic Bipolar Organisation supports individuals with bipolar disorder, families, friends, and mental health stakeholders by providing programs and resources that promote well-being and bipolar health.
We provide support through the creation of self-help groups and education programmes focused on self-management and peer support.
We produce and disseminate informational materials, translations, and seminars on bipolar disorder.
We protect the rights of our members, and fight against stigma related to bipolar disorder.
At our core, we are our members. The heart and strength of EDO lies in the people we support. Members participate anonymously, and on a voluntary basis; they have no legal or financial responsibility for the organisation’s operations. EDO works to empower, inform, and protect all its members in the best possible way with the resources available.
The organisation brings together people with bipolar disorder, family members, friends, and professionals/partners, protects medical privacy, and offers programmes and services to support members’ well-being and promote bipolar health.
Non-profit character – All income is reinvested into supporting programmes and expanding our impact. Clinical services are provided privately by collaborating professionals unless funding exists. In cases of financial hardship, referrals to public mental health centres are provided.
The Board includes people with lived experience of bipolar disorder or first-degree relatives.
Organisational staff include individuals with lived experience and supportive allies.
We support and promote scientific research in bipolar disorder to advance modern, effective treatments.
We protect medical confidentiality; any data collection is used strictly to improve organisational functioning. Research participation requires full informed consent.
Anyone interested can become a member by applying.
Our programme includes members, which we distinguish into:
1) Friend Members
2) Volunteer Members
3) Collaborating Members
4) Partner Members (associations. companies. centers. clinics)
We would like to remind you that EDO’s membership is mixed. Our members may be people with bipolar disorder, relatives, friends, and professionals/partners.
The questions below will help us get to know you a little better and decide on the best possible way for you to participate in EDO.
