Επίσημη Ιστοσελίδα της Ελληνικής Διπολικής Οργάνωσης (ΕΔΟ)
(EDO the Hellenic Bipolar Organisation)
from the Hellenic Bipolar Organisation
The Hellenic Bipolar Organisation is the first NGO for Bipolar patients, their relatives, friends, and professionals in Greece. It works to empower Greek Bipolarity, through self-management, education, and patient advocacy. EDO was formally founded on 19/06/08 in Athens, Greece. It was founded in the memory of George Malliaris (1942-2003), father, professor, and bipolar patient.
George Malliaris studied and taught English philology in highschools, and Athens university for many years. Even though his illness limited his academic accomplishment he was much loved by all his students, whom he supported and cared for. This academic prize will run yearly by the Hellenic Bipolar Organisation with the hope to foster academic development and achievement in the field of Bipolar disorders.
We welcome donations to expand the benefits it can offer to future mental health professionals who will become experts in the care of bipolar patients.
Topics:
1. Educating Bipolar patients about their illness. What do we know about bipolar disorder & patient psychoeducation? Is there a role for patients educating themselves? What makes a good patient pamphlet? How can we bring expert patients and expert professionals together to accomplish the task? Discuss relevant theory from your discipline as well as practical examples from successful endeavours or even your personal experience. Give us your theory and practical recipe.
2. Bipolar autobiographies. Review and discuss one of the 3 bipolar autobiographies that have been translated in Greek (NAI, LOUNATIKA, ANISIXO MIALO). What is their function in Bipolar care? What are their advantages and disadvantages in educating bipolar patients about their illness? How would you run a discussion group around one of these autobiographies? Feel free to choose another autobiography if you think is also helpful to our bipolar patients.
3. Open / Independent study topic. You define the topic of your essay / practical or project proposal. The essay could be part of your clinical psychology coursework, or your undergraduate thesis and/or other open project.

Tips
We appreciate reading a good academic piece of work. Writing well and using your sources appropriately demonstrates your skill and aptitude. However, try to also make it practical and prescriptive either by using theory, your personal experience and/or common sense, and/or by producing a practical sample of your work. Be creative, innovative and genuine. See this as an exercise of learning as well as teaching (us). Use any language you wish (either dry academic or pub-like lingo, english or greek) as long as you make it informative, if possible entertaining, and above all useful to our goals and purposes. No more than 4000 words (2000 words for essay + 2000 words for practical/personal example/demo). Use us to your advantage. Learn about us and read our website (www.edo.org.gr)
